💡 Deep Work: Professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that pushes your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new values, improve your skills, and are hard to replicate.

💡 Shallow Work: Non-cognitively demanding, logistic style task, often performed while distracted. These efforts tend to not create much new value in the world and are easy to replicate.

Rule#1 – Work Deeply

  • The Monastic Philosophy of Deep work Scheduling – This philosophy attempts to maximize the efforts by eliminating distraction or radically minimizing shallow obligations.
  • The Bimodal Philosophy of Deep work Scheduling – Deep work can produce extreme productivity if only the subjects dedicate enough time to such endeavors to reach maximum cognitive intensity.
  • The Rhythmic Philosophy of Deep work Scheduling – This philosophy argues to create a flow state of automated deep work by working consistently.
  • The Journalistic Philosophy of Depp work Scheduling – Getting into Deep work whenever we want.
  • Habits – Habits play a significant role in working deep because automatic intense deep work produces higher results.
  • Creating a radical change in the environment can help us to work intensively.
  • The 4 Disciplines of Execution 4DX :
    • Focus on the Widely important task.
    • Keep tracking your progress.
    • Stay accountable to someone or something.
    • Shutdown everything – take a break when you are focused not when you are distracted.

Rule#2 – Embrace Boredom

  • Get rid of distracting internet.
  • Take power naps.
  • Enjoy the work you do.
  • Find the joy or create the joy.

  • Meditate.

Rule#3 – Quit Social Media

  • The Any-Benefit Approach – You are justified in using a network tool if you can identify any possible benefits to its use, or anything you might possibly miss out on if you don’t use it.
  • The Craftsman Approach – Identify the core factor determining the success and happiness in your professional and personal life, Adopt a tool only if its positive impacts on these factors substantially outweigh its negative impacts.
  • Don’t use the internet to Entertain yourself. Choose Education + Entertainment.
  • If you want to get rid of the addictive pull of entertainment sites on your time and attention, give your brain a quality alternative.

Rule#4 – Drain the Shallows

  • Treat shallow work with suspicion because its damage is often vastly underestimated and its importance vastly overestimated.
  • Schedule every minute of your day.
  • Decide in advance, what you gonna do with every minute of your day.
  • Spent some time for shallow work after working deep.
